Beaterator
Rockstar and Timbaland
Rockstar Games has a reputation for creating a lot of different things: violent murder simulators, drug dealing minigames, and car stealing games. So Beaterator comes as a bit of a surprise; the software isn't a game at all, but a full-featured music creator for the PSP. Beaterator takes some serious time to get to know and get used to, but if you've got the patience, this is probably the best (and cheapest) way to produce your own music.
Beaterator: Create cool beats
Rock/folk/classical music fans take note: Beaterator deals with loops, which means it's really ideal for dance and hip-hop music that uses a lot of repetition. Of course, with a title like Beaterator you probably don't expect to be composing string quartets.
Beaterator: Good Quality
Beaterator is not the perfect music-crafting software, but for the price, it's damn good. Like any instrument, you can't pick it up and hope to master it overnight, nor will just having the software automatically make you a musician. But with perseverance (and aptitude for music), Beaterator provides the tools for making some really cool tracks, or at least backing beats that you can then add your own instruments/vocals over. Beaterator might have made more sense on the DS, with its touch controls and dual screens, or even on a PC with a mouse and keyboard, but it still works on the PSP.
